Postdoctoral Researcher Positions at Columbia University


Responsibility: One full-time postdoctoral researcher position is available beginning
July 1, 2019 in the Department of Statistics at Columbia University working with Drs.
Jingchen Liu and Zhiliang Ying. The main responsibilities of this position consist of latent
variable modeling and graphical modeling for innovative assessment and cognitive
learning, designing interactive assessment experiments, and the corresponding software
development. This position is funded in part by National Science Foundation BIGDATA
and MMS program.

Requirements: Applicants must have a PhD in statistics, computer science, or related
fields. Applicants with experience of latent variable modeling (hierarchical/multilevel
modeling), variable selection, and natural language processing are strongly preferred.
Applicants with strong programming background are particularly encouraged to apply.

Environment: The Department of Statistics at Columbia University has a history of over
sixty years, one of the oldest in the United States. Currently the department has over
twenty regular faculty members with diverse research interests. The faculty also has
close collaborations with researchers in many other departments/schools at Columbia
University and institutions in the Greater New York area such as New York University,
Rutgers University, Educational Testing Service, etc.
Appointment: The initial appointment will be for one year and may be renewable.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualification.
