Hello! My name is Arnau Garcia. I was born in Barcelona, but I grew up in Granollers. I studied Mathematics at the University of Barcelona. Despite my fondness for theoretical and abstract mathematics, it did not take me long to discover that what I wanted to do was to apply mathematics to the real world. Specifically, my motivation lies in the application of mathematics in the context of clinical data. That is why I decided to do the MESIO after finishing my undergraduate studies.
Besides my master’s thesis, I am doing some research in the GRBIO in the framework of the Iniciació a la Recerca (INIREC) grant. In the INIREC grant project I am implementing goodness-of-fit methods for complete and right-censored data by participating in the programming of the R package GofCens. Regarding my master’s thesis, I have as a Director Prof. Dimitris Rziopoulos from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, and as a Co-Director Prof. Guadalupe Gómez. The master’s thesis is on Joint Models, specifically on the Super Learning procedure applied to the Joint Models context with the aim of improving the predictive performance of the models.
Outside of my academic activities, I am a person with many interests, I spend the day listening to podcasts on different topics, but above all geopolitical and history topics are my favorite. I also love to play sports. Despite having played handball since I was a child, nowadays the sport I practice the most is running. So you could say I'm a runner. I've seen that in GRBIO I'm not the only runner, so I'm looking forward to run some races with my colleagues soon!
