MODES: PhD candidates

The modeling, optimization and statistical inference (MODES) research group of the University of A Coruña (UDC) will soon call for PhD students to be hired via research funds already obtained by the group, and will also participate in several competitive calls for PhD contracts for candidates interested in carrying out their PhD thesis within the group. In addition, two FPI contracts have been granted to MODES, related to two different research projects. The salary of all these contracts will be similar to the FPU and FPI contracts (Ministry of Education and Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness in Spain). MODES is part of the Research Center for Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC), recently distinguished as one of the five unique singular research centers in Galicia (NW Spain) by the Department of Culture, Education and Universities of the Galician Autonomous Government. Several of the members of MODES are associate researchers at the Technological Institute for Industrial Mathematics (ITMATI).

The PhD students will be trained in methodological aspects, in the fields of statistics or operations research, as well as in other computational methods, and may also be included in some of the research projects that MODES leads in collaboration with companies. In the framework of these PhD theses collaborations with other Spanish and foreign research groups will be carried out. The group MODES has again been recognized as a competitive reference group by the Galician Autonomous Government in the 2016 call. The group members are authors of more than a hundred publications in the period 2013-2017 in international high impact journals.

The required profile is a graduate, with a solid background in mathematics and statistics, with a master degree (or about to finish his/her master) and a good academic record. The candidate has to be enrolled or able to enroll in a doctoral programme along 2018 (in the second term of 2017-2018 academic year or in the first one of 2018-2019).

Those candidates that are ready to be enrolled in 2017-2018 academic year should send their expression of interest not later than February 22nd, 2018. The candidates who foresee to be enrolled the following 2018-2019 school year should send their expression of interest not later than July 15th, 2018. The expression of interest has a free format but must indicate, at least, the candidate's academic background and previous research experience, if applicable. The names of reference researchers who could report on the candidate are welcome.
